The German name of the town, Schabs has very ancient roots: it is first mentioned in a document between 1085 and 1097 in the form of ‘Scauvis’.   During the following years it changed into different variants, in 1777 it became ‘Schäbs’ and afterwards ‘Schabs’.

To the municipality of Schabs belongs also the so-called “Urlaubsstöckl” on the southern slope of Mount Spinges, a simple pilgrimage chapel, which can be reached on an easy path with a breathtaking view.
