Apple blossom in Natz-Schabs

A magical natural show

Between the end of March and the beginning of May, depending on the weather and temperatures, thousands of apple trees bloom in Natz-Schabs. The plateau transforms into a sea of white-pink flowers, a delicate scent fills the mild air. Bees buzz around to gather the nectar from the blossoms. A breathtaking natural spectacle!
Blossom shielded by ice
On a few spring mornings, you may be able to spot another of nature’s magnificent spectacles: Delicate apple blossom encased in a twinkling layer of ice. When the temperatures fall below zero at night, the farmers turn on the frost-protection sprinklers; the water freezes around the flowers instantly, forming a thin layer of ice. As the water freezes it releases heat, which protects the delicate flowers and buds from the frost. This fine protective shell around the blossom breaks when the first rays of sun appear, and the apple orchards echo with their gentle chime.
